Rick Matear was born in 1960.

He graduated form the Victorian College of the Arts is 1981.

He was awarded the Sarah Levi Scholarship in 1982.

In 1982 and 1994 he travelled and painted in Europe.

Lived in the Grampians in 1993-94 and now lives and works in Melbourne.

The artist spends a great deal of time at Portsea and is noted for his interpretation of the local area.
